Know Your Merchant: Read the merchant’s customer service and return policies. Locate an address and telephone number on the site in case you need to contact someone.
Shop Securely: Most web browsers comply with industry security standards, such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). Many browsers display a closed padlock icon at the bottom of the browser window when you’re in secure mode. You can also check the URL shown in the Address window of your browser. Guard Your Privacy: Keep your personal information secure. You should not need to provide your Social Security number to make a purchase. Read the merchant’s privacy policy to understand how they treat your personal information.
